Story Board Draft and Design

31/01/2024

This is the first part that had some problems.

You can see that the early panels are more square than the later ones which is wrong for this kind of work. The story board should have similar parameters as the think it's created for. I managed to fix that once it was pointed out to me. After that things went smoothly.

These first story boards didn't have differences between characters because I first wanted to make the designs (you can see said designs under the drafts).

These drafts were mostly to finalise all of the layouts and framings for the final story board. Some of the frames that I forgot to make or decided to add later are annotated in-between the drafts, this was so I would not forget about them.

The rough design of the house was mainly for myself to kind of know where everything was placed in any given shot and where to place the camera to not cross the 180 line.

I wanted the characters to look simple but have a personality.

The male character Ash is in the story made as slightly naive, but also bold and adventures. My personal interpretation of why he was digging in the garden was that he was using a metal detector, searching for possible "treasures" in the garden. The design of his clothes were inspired by what Jean-Paul Belmondo wears in his films. His hair on the other hand was just something simple that would evoke that he is young and also would look the same from every angle. Basically I went with a military style buzz cut.

The female character Bex (or Becky) was tricky. She is the twist killer at the end of the story, but before the end you don't really suspect her to do much until she prepares to kill Ash. She seems un-empathetic to his distress but also to be otherwise non-confrontational and quiet. I wanted her to kind of emulate the girl next door look. She would look like an innocent girl with not much of a personality past that but turn out to be the one responsible for at least 2 dead bodies buried in the garden. I went for simple long hair and a simple outfit inspired by the girl next doors aesthetic.
